The early bird catches the worm. Especially at the Calgary Farmers Market. It is not like you won’t get any produce later in the day. But chances are you are fighting a hundred customers per sqm. That’s why I try to get there at 9 am when they open. I usually need a coffee first at Phil & Sebastian Coffee Company, which is expensive but awesome. It tastes more like Italian coffee than what you usually get here (apart from the few places that serve Illy). Yum! Then I visit the Rustic Sourdough Bakery to buy a Coconut Macaroon for breakfast. They are soft and chewy and totally coco-nutty(?). The bread is quite good there too and the closest to what you get in Germany.
I bought a lot of veg and fruit, mostly from the Hutterite Colonies. Their produce is super fresh and very cheap. I am not sure if they use pesticides but I think the quality is superb.
When I went to pay my two kohlrabis and the guy in front of me bought 10 if not more. The lady selling asked him what he is going to do with so many and as it turns out he is the chef of the River Cafe! Very cool. I have never seen kohlrabi on a menu here.
